Morgan horses have influenced other major American breeds, including the American Quarter Horse, Tennessee Walking Horse and the Standardbred. Later, Morgan horses were exported to other countries, including England, where a Morgan stallion influenced the breeding of the Hackney horse. In 1907, the US Department of Agriculture established the US Morgan Horse Farm near Middlebury, Vermont for the purpose of perpetuating and improving the Morgan breed Ownership of the farm was later transferred to the University of Vermont. The original breed registry for Morgan horses was established in 1909.

A compact, refined breed, the Morgan horse is generally bay, black or chestnut in color, although they come in many colors, including several variations of pinto. Morgan horses excel in both English and Western disciplines, and the breed is best known for its versatility.

The presence, versatility and personable nature of the Morgan horse makes these horses excellent subjects for bronze horse sculptures and all forms of horse art.

One of the earliest horse breeds developed in the United States, the Morgan horse traces its ancestry to an extraordinary stallion named Figure. Figure was later re-named Justin Morgan after his best-known owner, In 19th-century American history Morgan horses were extremely versatile, being used as coach horses, in harness racing, as general riding animals, and as cavalry horses during the American Civil War on both sides of the conflict.

It was a lot of fun getting to know this wonderful horse. I also spent time photographing and taking measurements him with his owner. He is a wonderful all around horse who has been shown very successfully in both saddleseat English and Western classes including pleasure and trail and other all around classes. This spirited and kind horse was a joy to sculpt in bronze.

This bronze horse statue measures 11 inches high on it's

rich walnut wood base and is 10 inches by 6 inches wide.
