Arabian Endurance Horse sculpture in progress

The horse, shown here in clay is supported by a metal armature.  A pipe runs up into the horse's belly behind the girth, and wires can be observed protruding from the hooves of the horse.

The armature serves to support the clay model while it is being sculpted.
 

The clay model of the horse is sculpted using photographs and measurements
as well as by observing the real horse whenever possible.  When the real horse is
not available for taking measurements and obsevation as a model,
Kim seeks out a "stand-in".  A horse with the same measurements and build
as the horse who is the subject matter of her sculpture.

There is a connection between horse and human
that can be found in the best of every riding discipline.
I seek to honor that connection through my artwork.
